Caliber: 5.56 × 45mm NATO

The boss of LaRue Tactical is Mark LaRue. In 1980, he started a small workshop using CNC machine tools to produce and sell competition-level AR parts. Initially, he only made some small parts such as scope mounts. In 2006, he began to produce his own competition-level upper receivers, and then added his own lower receivers, so he simply launched his own competition-level AR complete gun. Their products are mainly in two calibers: 5.56 NATO and 7.62 NATO. The latter adopts the AR10 design. The main product is the OBR series (Optimized Battle Rifle). It is said that good shooters can easily achieve 1/2 MOA accuracy using OBR with competition bullets. In 2011, the weight-reduced OBR PredatAR series was launched, which is said to have a 1 MOA level.

Compared with the PredatAR series, the OBR series uses a heavy barrel, while the latter has a barrel diameter reduced by 0.75 inches. In addition, the Picatinny rails on the top of the receiver and the integral handguard of the former are elevated and slightly tilted forward, which makes it easier for the scope to match the trajectory at long range. There is also a series called the PredatOBR series, which is between the two, with a heavy barrel and a standard height rail.

LaRue's products are primarily aimed at the civilian market, but the U.S. Army Special Operations Forces purchased 1,000 7.62 caliber OBRs for use as sniper weapons, and there are some in the Delta, Green Berets or Rangers.

The 3rd Special Forces Group used the OBR in a small internal sniper competition (not a USASOC competition) at Fort Bragg in 2014.
