Caliber: 7.62 × 51mm NATO

The above picture was found by chance on the Ghost Recon MOD forum in the second half of 2005. The long-rumored 7.62mm caliber version of HK416, HK417, looks like this. According to the report of Jane's Defense Weekly on October 26, 2005, HK used the HK416 production line to launch the HK417 , and launched it at the 2005 Annual Meeting of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA).

HK417 is the 7.62×51mm NATO caliber version of HK416 . The relationship between HK416 and HK417 is like SCAR-L and SCAR-H, which are two caliber models of the same gun family. HK417 is equipped with G3's 20-round magazine. Except for the different caliber, other aspects are basically the same as HK416 . It has completed a two-week desert test in Arizona, during which more than 20,000 rounds of ammunition were fired. The barrel length of the test sample gun is 317mm . At the 2006 SHOT SHOW, HK exhibited a HK417 with a slightly different appearance from the early ones . However, the appearance of the mass-produced HK417 launched in 2008 is different from the prototype gun in 2006, and the magazine has been changed from the original metal magazine to a translucent plastic magazine with a capacity of 10 rounds and 20 rounds. In addition, it can be equipped with a 50-round plastic drum. HK417 has been equipped with a small number of special forces or special police teams in some countries.

The Crane Division of the U.S. Naval Ground Weapons Development Center (NSWC), which tests and provides equipment for SOCOM's special forces, launched a bid for silencers in 2012 to purchase a batch of 12-inch or 16-inch silencers that can be used for HK417. This shows that the U.S. special forces are also equipped with a certain number of HK417.

The German army once tested the HK417 in the G27 project. The G27 was a DMR rifle that was scheduled to replace the original G3. However, in 2010, the German army announced that the HK417 failed their test because of inaccuracy. However, HK later improved the DMR rifle based on the civilian semi-automatic HK417 and the German army adopted it as the G28. But in 2015, someone posted a few photos of the fully automatic HK417 and claimed that it was the G27 equipped by the German army. In addition, it is said that the GSG-9 is equipped with the 13-inch HK417A2 called the G27K.

In 2013, HK integrated some new features of G28 into HK417 and launched HK417A2. It is said that GSG-9 is equipped with 13-inch HK417A2 and is designated as G27K.

Robert Clare, a special forces soldier from the Air Force PJ and CCT, joined Delta in 2007. Although the gun in the picture can only be seen as a HK416/417 stock, the magazine bag contains a 7.62 magazine (the left is a large high-definition picture with code, and the right is a small picture without code), indicating that Delta is equipped with HK417
